hi my name is Lee I’m new to this forum (not a blog) and very excited to participate in it.
I am not very experienced with Photoshop and would be very grateful to get some help with
a few things that I don’t understand… thank you in advance!!

i am having an issue…when I select a area that I am painting on…I can paint inside the selection or by inverting it…I can paint on the outside.
until now the edges of the painted area on the active side of the selection will come out sharp. Lately I cannot get that to happen…on either
side of the selection I get a soft edge. Had anyone had this problem and could suggest a solution to stop it? thanks very much

Hello Lee and welcome to the forum. Just a note, there is no "Selection Tool" in Ps. There are many tools that can make selections. It will help if you let us know exactly which tool you're using to make your selections.

My guess is that all of the Marquee and Lasso Tools you may be using to make the selections, check the feathering. If you want a sharp edge, set your feathering to 0px.

The Magic Wand Tool could be your tolerance setting as well as the line/color delineation of what you're selecting.
The Quick Selection Tool could be your brush hardness setting.
The Pen Tool will be feathering.

Depends on the exact tool!
