Carbon Fiber Texture.

Lately I've been messing with trying to create a GOOD carbon fiber texture. I've been testing it by adding it to a very notable video game character (Rhymes with Blaster Thief) because his armor is the right texture, and lets be honest how cool would it be to have a carbon fiber A** kicker destroying the (Rhymes with Ovenent) across the galaxy?
I've tried doing layers of simple patterns using the pattern tool available under the paint bucket but I can't seem to find something that gives it a good look. Applied to the subject in question this is what I have so far:

Any thoughts on how the texture could be improved?

Well, the pattern or weave is much too large, it would be much smaller. I would isolate the dark areas, or any area I would want the CF to appear, and then use a displacement map to form fit the CF to those areas.

Actually, the more I look at it, I think you would be fine just making the pattern smaller and adding some Dodge & Burn.
