Hi boyd...
No boyd, actually this is the type of template you'll have to create from scratch. But on the upside, you'll only have to make it once.
8 cards per page is an odd amount. Why not the standard 10?
Just start with a document that will match the size you need to fit the amount of cards you want to have on a sheet.
Then use the Guides to create the separate card sections;
with appropriate bleeds added. An example of what your document would look like is below. (
the grid is not evenly spaced, it's just a quick draft)
Then... create your business card in a separate document. When you do this, for simplicity sake, add your 1/8" bleed around the card design, and just leave it white. Or, make it transparent if you wish. Adding the bleed will make it easier to 'snap' your card image into place within the Guides you've setup.
When your card design is complete, put all the design layers into a layer Group.
Drag'n'drop this layer Group into your card template document.
Turn on the "Snap to Guides" & "Snap to Document Bounds" functions under the View menu, and snap your card into one of the sectioned areas. Duplicate this card layer and repeat the positioning process until your sheet is filled.
Personally though boyd... i'll usually start out my card design by creating/opening my card template sheet, THEN creating my card design within the top left section. I just think this makes things easier if i start out with everything in one doc. But that's a presonal pref.
Hope that helps.
Any problems just ask. :B
