I'm never sure what folks mean when using the term template. I think your really meaning mock-up.

Your on the right track so I don't know that a tutorial would help you much for now.

What I can do is let you look at my PSD that I used to create this:

This will give you some basic ideas about layer structure, grouping, as well as my layer style settings that you can study.

In my mock-up, everything is editable! I used shapes, smart objects, and clipping masks. To add a new texture, just import it into Ps and place it in a layer above the current texture and clip. You don't even need to deactivate the previous texture layer since only the new one will be visible.

I could have made much better use of smart objects, but I wanted to keep it somewhat easier to understand.
