Creating an Image for Spot Colour

Spot Colors go into Channels

Spot colors need to be independent of each other. You cannot simply take a CMYK doc and convert it into spot colors.

1. Image > Mode > Grayscale
2. Click on the panel menu for the Channels panel.
3. Select New Spot Channel...
4. Give it a name and select a color which approximates your spot color. It really doesn't matter what color you choose because the plate will be printed in b/w or grayscale anyway.
5. Paint with black wherever you want the spot color to go. (Or make a selection and Edit > Fill with black.)
6. For each succeeding spot color, repeat steps 2-5.
7. When you go to prepress, each spot color channel will be printed on a separate plate.
