Ahhh, so the two pieces don't have to merge seamlessly. Here's one way:

  1. Make a selection 100 px tall and place it over the part you want to chop out.
  2. Hit delete.
  3. Select the bottom piece that's left over, copy it to a new layer (Ctrl-J), and move it up until it touches the top piece.
  4. Crop the image around the new boundaries.
