Description

I am coming to the end of a course and i would like to do a poster of the instructors and my fellow classmates - this isn't to help me pass/fail the course, it's meant to be a general funny.

However, although i have the design i want in mind, having played about with the idea for a few weeks online and in various progs, i find i am absolutely rubbish at getting my idea into a printable format (I am looking having it printed in room poster size; A3 or bigger).

My theme is a US style yearbook:

dark background
name of my course at the top and dates
Picture of lead instructor - with space for a quote
Picture of 2nd lead instructor - with space for a quote
Picture of 4 x instructor - with space for a quote

Pictures of 12 students with space for a quotes

Underneath all that - a few quotes people have come out with

at the bottom 3 x pictures i have made

various places throughout the poster some other pics i have made.

Time Frame
As soon as possible (certainly within a week - deadline)

Payment
The designer would email me a watermarked sample of the work. When it's completed to my satisfaction (perhaps after further revisions I request), I would send payment via Paypal. After receiving payment, the designer would send me the finished work.

The price (£10) is based on the amount of money I'm willing to pay to not have to do this work myself. But, if the designer can provide some objective data—such as links to similar and completed job listings—showing that this work is normally priced higher, I'd be willing to reconsider what a fair price would be.

Purpose and Credit
I have paid for the license to use a larger version of this stock image, and it may not be used or reproduced elsewhere in any form.

And that's about it - anybody want to have a go at this? Getting the resolutions right, correct spacings etc, i am such a noob with this type of thing!

I could afford about £10 (GBP) (paypal gift) if anybody is up for it! If someone is up for it, please let me know and i will email the photos in trust to them.

Can you post what dimensions you want the finished design to be, including any bleed and margins?

Also confirm what format you want it delivered in, for example Photoshop PSD, Illustrator .ai, InDesign etc....

Thanks for posting your project.

Hey Gaussian,

Thanks for your quick reply. As to your questions:

i don't own photoshop, so it would need to be delivered in something i could use to later add the "quotes" from the course members. What do you suggest? (.pdf etc?)

Size - whatever looks best, i can go A3 or room size poster (room size poster would be best - i think!) The finished product will be going on the wall of a library.

Margines etc your call. The finished product would be sent to a printers for printing.

All i am interested in, is getting my idea onto a poster - all the technical side i would leave to you - the experts! I have a hand drawn plan of what i want, which i have scanned and can forward to anyone who wants to have a crack at this!

The standard in the US is usually 1/8 inch bleed plus 1/4 inch margin on each side, but you may want to check with your printer, and you should specify the finished size that you want.... maybe call the printer and ask them about this.

A high res PDF would probably work ok for you, but I don't know about adding the quotes later on, especially if you don't have Acrobat Professional. You may just want to have the designer add them for you whenever you have them ready, would that work? You could get the .psd .ai or .indd file (whichever the designer uses) from the designer also and you can give that to your printer in case they need to change anything.... like the margins for example.

I'm just trying to clarify the details for you.

Cheers!

Yes, i could get the quotes later in the week and forward them on for addition. As for bleed etc I have no idea what these are, but i'm sure the printer will be able to sort it (the printer is a graphic designer within my work organisation and could do adjustments if required).

Had a thought as well, forget the quotes, i would put the names of each person under their photo and at the bottom have a list of course quotes - might make thing simpler.

Bleed is basically lines that they give for safety lines for when they cut, you want to design within those two different lines, you take your background all the way to the edges into the bleed area and you keep your logo and important images within the inside of the safety line, one is for bleed one is just for safety...

Here is a business card i just did for a client that owns a dog grooming business, it shows my red bleed lines, you have to do your design with those or things could get ugly and waste money..

ah thanks for that. Now i know what bleed is. I would take advice from you guys on what you suggest on sizes as this poster isn't meant to be a show of our design skills, just a general funny that would only be seen by the next set of courses.

that's all you need is placement of photos on the document? and some text?
KrDezines .thats looks awesome.nice job!

I'm off the next couple of days, if you want, send me some pics you wanted added and ill do a mock up... It looks like you basically want a tree design with some photo's. If we work together on this im sure we can work around the added quotes...

Thanks :) The client loved it!!

Yes, photos and text. But done in 'tree' form as per the diagram. Also some other pics spread around the poster (pics i have already made).

The only problem is the pics of the individuals - if they could be cropped and put onto a plain background as some are stood in front of stupid backgrounds - so it would be better if they were all the same.

Could you let me know who wants to have a crack and i will email them the pics etc.

Thanks all.
