Illustrator Desperately Seeking Answer To Question About Image.....

As some of you already know, I am new to Graphics and still have a long way to go.

Anyways, I have come across a ' Header Background Image '. It's okay, not to interested in it's looks. But I am interested in one small detail as a part of that image.

I had noticed, and could never really figure out how one creates a base/border in respect to the image I am posting about.

Below I am inserting that very image, hoping someone could explain to me how one can go about creating base/border to the one in question.

Please, need to know.

You can use the rectangle selection tool to create the border selection along the bottom edge of your image on a new layer... fill with selected color.
