I have experienced this problem in Photoshop for a while now and cant take much more of it.... Win Xp, SP2, Photoshop CS2, Fontfolio (open type edition)

I added the adobe font folio recently and adobe freezes up constantly since I installed those fonts.. it will just stop responding for around 30 secs several times around startup. this also happened when I had a 4000 font library installed at a different time...

I assume this has something to do with font indexing and the large numbers of fonts clog it... Is there anything that can be done about this because it is REALLY annoying...

Peace

When you purchased the font folio, you should also have looked for a font management software.
4000 is WAY too much fonts installed. You can also disable the font preview in the preferences.

I do not know wich font management software to recommend, there are maybe some comparative tests online

You should do as Spectre says but a tiny different approach could be;
Look up the font-manager software. Then you should uninstall most of the fonts.
Now you can start browsing for fonts through your font-manager software and install and use the fonts you actually want to use. As the fontcollection in use grows, you can start managing them the way Spectre says.
This is how I did it and it works well.

I do not know which software to recommend though, I've been using Adobe Font Manager but I've never been happy about it.
