Not nearly as weird as the tradition it represents. It's rhetorical, but I wonder how bunnies and chicken eggs ever became associated with Easter.

Actually the tradition of coloring eggs is very old. Eggs are a symbol of beginning and rebirth and rabbits are a symbol of fertility. The Christian celebration of Christ's resurrection was preceded by the symbols, which are pagan. I can only assume that the chickens got in on the act as being producers of said eggs.
