I am trying to follow along within a tutorial.

I make a shape with the shape tool. I then click the Pen Tool in order to edit the anchor points, however, there are no anchor points!

Here is a video of what I am trying to follow along to.

When he makes the shape, clicks the pen tool he is able to see the anchor points, I am not.

I am using CS6.

I wonder if I am just an idiot or do I have some settings wrong or what could be causing this?

With the Pen Tool, click and hold Command/Alt to change to the Direct selection tool, click the edge of the shape and all of the anchor points will appear, when done release the key. This is how he does it.

Clicked Pen Tool held down Alt and clicked. It added an anchor point where I clicked but did not show me any anchor points.

I'm sorry, I meant Command/Control! Synaptic glitch.......trying to do too many things at once!

:(

Using Pen Tool I held down Ctrl and a white cursor appears. I clicked near the edge of the shape but no anchor points are showing up.

I should mention, this only is happening when I make shapes. If I draw with the Pen Tool there are no issues with showing anchor points.

That helps!

It appears to me that you have used the Rectangular Marquee Tool to make your rectangle because you do not have a shape layer in your Layers panel.

You need to use the Rectangle Tool, it may be nested in your Shape tools.

Well, I was using the Rectangle Tool but tried again for good measure, no luck.

However, when I use that tool it does not make the shape on a new layer, it keeps it on the layer I am using. Could that be part of the issue?

Great! The screen shots always help. It allows us to see these kinds of things.

I would be of the male persuasion.

Glad it worked!
