I would like advice on making this logo look grittier. I want to learn how to do this for myself. The Foundry refers to a metal casting workshop so looking for that feel.

Is the logo the white areas? Is the grey only a background? Or, do you intend on including the grey bg as part of the logo?

Note: Not having the original PSD file means I have to work with poor selections.

You can add metal textures to the white areas using clipping masks.
This way, the white areas would stand out on any colored bg.

Just an opinion, but I would probably do away with the outer circle.

I selected the white logo to an alpha channel; experimented with various gritty/aged backgrounds placed over top; tried various blend modes with each to suit; used the saved alpha channel to mask in the white logo and added in portions of the gritty background to it with a white brush on the mask.Logo.jpg
