I think you will have to make separate layers for them. The change in the color sections is made by selecting the overlapping letter, then masking the overlap and filling. At least that is my interpretation. You can just duplicate the layer several times so that the spacing and placement remains exactly the same, then mask off the letters as you need. Without trying it myself that is my best guess. Someone may have a better idea.
