howdy everyone

not sure if this question fits here but since this is for us newbies i figure this is the place to ask it:

how do you choose a good wacom tablet for a beginner? I know that there is a saying "dont buy all the fancy-shmancy tablets, buy the simplest model for drawing and you will be fine"- is that right?

there are a lot of chices for these tablets, some with ridicules prices and a bunch of options and features i dont even know because i never had one of these

i am intersted in creating manga charchters, anime charchters and possibly cartoons so i figure that such a device is required but i just dont know what to choose and its a lot of money going wasted if i choose poorly

thanks to anyone who responds :)

I think if you are starting out you'd probably just want a Wacom Bamboo, they are fairly cheap, good sized and easy to use, there's not too many buttons to get confused with either, they can double up as a touch pad as well.

if you want something bigger (just take in mind bigger isn't always better) then look into the intuos range, they have varying sizes to suit certain needs, but I've always gone with the smaller size tablets.

I had this same thing occur last month. I read this

http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/product-reviews/16985-drawing-tablet.html

And I picked up a large Wacom-bamboo-create-drawing-tablet. Cheapest was (new) Amazon...$155. free shipping

I did not get the wireless option , but will soon . I got the large size and once set up, I am not sure how I used PS before...It has raised my game considerably.

I use the keyboard a lot for commands, The Intous tablets have more of this as my Bamboo only has 4 buttons.

I looked at the "Pen Mouse's", but they are bulky for my skinny fingers.

I love my Bamboo Create. I have the wireless option but truly don't use it much. You can get into one without the wireless for about $170.00 or so, add about $30 for the wireless thing and your still right at $200.00 plus your shipping of course. I've owned several Wacoms over the years and this one is the best one yet for me. Somehow I feel that the Intuos at like $400 would be an overkill for a non-professional as myself.

thanks a lot for all the replies guys i have much better understanding now with what i can work :)
