Hello guys,

I am new at this Forum and photoshop, so I need your help! =)

I would like to do is this old/dirty paper effect, just like the background in this board game picture.
It is really soft, but as you can see it is a lit bit darker (seems it is dirty and not very well conserved) around the board game and this damages in the green area.

The pictures and the 'way' are not important, only the background of this board game.

How should I do that? Hope u can help me!

thanks! =)

Hey dv8_fx, thanks!

I think it is something like that. That would work. How do I do that?
Besides, I want to do this 'damage' in the green line.

Summarizing, I would lije to make the left one look like the right one (I want to use only the background).

thanks for your help =)

I created a layer applying the cloud filter on a game duplicate layer, play with layer mode and lower opacity. If you don't like the cloud look generated , hit CTRL+F to regenerate a cloud.

As for the damage , there's a lot of ways - try use lasso tool to create the peel shapes on a new layer, fill withgrey/brown shade and play with layer mode and opacty.

Hope it helps.

Alien Skin Xenoflex 2 is an amazing plugin for this job. It will give the sides of the map/maze/gameboard/whatever a stained look like an old treasure map. Check it out, mate. Very easy to use. :)

But if you want to try to do it yourself, here is some playing around I did. I used dV8's ideas and a couple others.

GameBoard.PNG

I made a layer above the original and used the clouds filter till I found one I like, then changed blend mode to hard light and lowered the opacity.I masked it with the selection I made on the original which removed the cloud effect from the green frame. You can also use the mask to brush out some of the effect on other parts of the board if you like

I made the original layer a smart object then applied the noise filter to it; suggest you use gaussian and monochromatic. You don't need to make a smart object; I just like to have the filter mask available to mask out areas if I want to break up the uniformity.

I made a layer below and filled it with that greyish-beige color dv8 recommended.

I made a selection of the green frame, and masked off the rest of the board -- or you could just extend the tears etc. into the board. Then I used various brushes and the brush palette to brush different size rips and holes into it.

That's about it. Hope it helps.

After you're done with the effects to the frame, you can apply the layer mask and put a very minimal shadow layer effect on it.
This will give it the dimension of the paper rip lifting up.

Hey guys, thanks a lot! All the tips are really useful. I will try this week and show the results here.
I found a really good place to learn and maybe help in a couple of months. =)
