That's the thing.... the image on that layer will lose detail when you lower the opacity. And it will be that way...


But you wanted to make the background image show a bit....


Then try the reverse... make a layer copy of the background image and make it your topmost layer and lower the opacity of that layer making sure your second image layer (the image you were referring to) is at full opacity....

PS... Unless the image you speak of has a transparent background.... that may take another procedure. Which is why we need to see your image so we can "diagnose" what to do.... lol ... a layer mask on that image might help.


OR... just follow what I outlined above.... you will retain the full opacity of the background image and at the same time you can adjust the opacity of the background image copy showing on the second image ..... the image you speak of will retain it's detail.
