How to merge one layer onto multiple layers at once?

Any help would be appreciated, i'm trying to finish up a project, and i'm hung up on one issue.

So effectively, what I want to do is take one layer from a .psd, and "auto-add" it to every other layer in the document. Like the "Merge" function between two layers, but i need to merge just the one layer onto 1,000 other layers in one shot. Is there a way to do this?? I'm using CS4.

is this a 1000 layer psd if so that sounds crazy for standard usages.

You need to be more specific is it a whole layer or an object surrounded by transparant pixels

Thanks for the quick reply! It is kinda crazy, but basically what I'm doing is adding a "hang tab" (object surrounded by transparent pixels) to a bunch of game boxes (also surrounded by transparent pixels), and i've got everything aligned.. i'd like to add this "tab" to all the other layers, and then run export layers to files, and finish this project up.

so you dont want to merge 1000 layers together you just want the 1 layer to merge to every other 1000 layers if it is going to be the same location you can record an action doing it and the use the file > Automate > Batch and choose that action however it will be quite strenous on your machine and may take some time unless you split the layers into groups. And of course this will only work on 1 image at a time so if you mean 1000 layers in 1 document it will not work essentially you need 1000 seperate images.

I am probably overlooking the obvious solution here but I cant think of an eay 1 click solution which does not include duplicating the image 1000 times and merging the layers. Or making 1000 layer comps

Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking to do.. I'll try the "recorded action" batch advice you gave and let you know how it goes. I do have all the images seperate, i just merged them all into one document because i thought it would help me accomplish my goal. (Will experiment with just a few files before i do the whole batch of 'em).

Haha, incidently, duplicating the layer and merging them independently is exactly what i've been doing in the meantime.. works great, just not very time-effective!
