I don't understand your (above) statement of the problem. 


Every digital camera that I have ever worked with (that can put out both JPG and raw files) always does *exactly* what you want, without having to do any renaming.    For example, I have attached below a screen shot from one of my directories that shows the files exactly as they come out of one of my cameras.  They are in exactly the organization that you seem to want.


Are you asking because you have you already made changes to the file names and need to get back into the pair-wise organization you described? 


If so, probably the easiest way to describe your current situation is to simply post a screen shot of one of your folders that shows several files in your current organization / file naming convention, ie, just like I did.


BTW, are you on a Windows or a Mac?
