How to repeat a logo and make a pattern with it?

I have a logo I want to repeat over and over as a pattern to use as a background for a design I'm making. Any tips? I can just keep doing duplicate layer and move it, but it's never in the right spot. I've heard o people doing it successfully with the pattern tool but I couldn't get it to work...
I want something like this, just with the AM103 logo, no diagonal gradient and not opposite colors. All black on the white withe the same spacing style

select the logo and go to edit> define pattern
deselelect and fill background with the pattern

I got this, but how can I make each line offset so that there is a logo in the gap every other line?
