Agreed. The .htaccess file is meant for "pretty" links to your site's pages, e.g. instead of http://www.domain.com/content.html?x=bla&y=moreblasdjnlfknjflkjnflskfnsklgng, .htaccess may reslve that to http://www.domain.com/content/thatOneCoolPage.

What you want is a simple redirect to home domains, so Hoogle's suggestion is one of the easiest. If your site uses a lot of server-side scripting to create the pages (PHP, ASP etc), you may want to use that language to create a similar re-direct.
