!!To start, i m really bad at making logos and i m new to photoshop!!

Hey. Long time ago i made this logo for my small website.
And now i would like to renew it. so i thought about getting some help from experts with lots of imagination = Y'all :}

My logo is an "S", i would like to make a cool one [slick]
I really can't make a good logo, i don't have any imaginations.
Any suggestions?
thanks in advance, and sorry for my poor english ;\

It looks like your trying to use the pen tool. If that's the case you are using way too many anchor points, which is why you're s looks so jagged and fragmented. I would try installing a font that has an S similar the what you are going for, converting it to a path, and then editing the path to fine tune the design. I'll see if I can't dredg up some good vector/pen tool links for you.

Those 2 should get you started working with the pen tool. My tip for you would be to save all of your paths as selections by using alpha channels. That way you can add multi-color fills, etc.

Thanks for the replies guys!! :}
hum i did what you guys suggested.
and this is where i came so far.
i think it s much better than what i had.
still there should be lots of things i can arrange.
any suggestions?
cheers

Hi, Tommyhilfiga . Yes , it is, much better.

still there should be lots of things i can arrange

Logo should be clean, simple and easy to recognize, so I would not suggest to add a "lots" of things.

Check The Inside Track Forum , there are logo challange treads. :)

;) Just keep at it tommyhilfiga!

Remember, this is YOUR logo and yes, you have more imagination than you give yourself credit for. Play around some and you'll be surprised what you can come up with! :D

I'm wondering what the "S" stands for... this could guide you in the designing process.

And yes, keep it "simple"!

Hi Tommy - Welcome to the PSG Forum:)

Photoshop takes lots of practice. Even the old Pros are still learning new things about the program every single day. So don't be discouraged, just keep practicing, reading and studying tutorials, and experimenting with your own designs.

To help you out I drew up a small tutorial below on how to make a vector shape from the letter S, so you can make your own design.

----------------------

Use your Type Tool and type an "S" on your canvas. Make it the size you want, set Anti-Aliasing on, and don't worry about the color or anything like that. Then go to the File menu and choose Layer > Type > Convert to Shape (as shown below):

Next go to the Paths palette, grab the Layer with the Vector Shape you just made, and drag it down to the Create New Path button (as shown below). This creates a new layer with an editable version of your "S" path.

Now go back to your canvas, and using the Path Selection Tool from the toolbar (as shown below) select the new path you just made and drag it anywhere you want. If you want you can delete your Type layer, since you now have the Vector Path of your "S" to play with.

Now on your keyboard press Ctrl+T to bring up the Transform dialogue box. Use your Path Selection Tool to right-click on the transform box around your Path (as shown below) and in the fly-out menu that appears you can choose several different methods of transforming your S.

Play around with the different options until you get the desired shape you want for your S.

Once you get the shape just the way you want it, then you can use Photoshop's many different Styles and Filters to give it some pizzazz (as in my own example below):

----------------------

Tommy, I hope this helps you. At the very least it will give you an idea how to use Paths to get one method of designing your logo.

Photoshop has tons of methods for doing just about anything, so check out the tutorials on-line (you can go to www.google.com and type Photoshop in the Search window and get about a gazillion pages of Photoshop sites to pick from).

Have fun ... and let us see your progress :)

:} Doug!

Must be related to Netboy ......

C9Mouse thanks a lot!!!
I'v been a bit busy these day, it s why it took me soo long to reply. and i just wanted to try your technic.

This is my newest logo...
humm what can I do?

Cheers

Hey, he lives! lol

Hmmm. Did you try using the Path Tool. Sorry, it looks the same as the first one you posted, only with a different style (and no circle).

If you need inspiration try visiting some websites whose designs and graphics you like. You can also get great inspiration from books, magazines, even visiting the local musuem.

Sometimes we just need an energy boost, especially if we have hectic schedules or are working too much or both. Too much work (or even school) can really dull the senses. Take time out for yourself and to breath and reflect on things. I always do that. It's good for the 'ol creative soul.

Very helpful info on path selection C9! I always use Illustrator but life can be much easier staying in one program! :}
