The problem with using an imprecise method like the magic wand is demonstrated in your post Alosolo. You have lost the integrity of the metal and the jewels. The same thing happens with color select and blend if. Quick select will be inexact also. There is so little contrast between the ring and the background that you can't use channel extractions any better than the above methods.

The only way to get a good selection from a low resolution image with low color contrast and intricate curves and details is to use the pen tool. It is time consuming and takes practice, but any other method will require so much time cleaning up the edges that you may as well spend a little extra time making a crisp, clean pen tool selection.

That is IMHO.
