... i'm wondering if there's something i may have forgotten to add...?

Since so many people seem interested in this kind of stuff... here's a full-on sample of the subject matter for this new section. It's to do with... well... read the caption...
3d-interface----overall-hea.jpg

Realistic 3D looking stuff (like a 3D app would create) like pipes, bars, caps, grooves, slits, cavities, cut-outs, buttons, sliders, knobs, nuts, bolts, screws, nails, wire casing, wires, glass, plastic, metal plating/covers, metal grating/grill, various textures... and a few other things.

I've finished all the tutes for everything in the left image, and i'm now a little into doing the pipes in the right side image.

Can anyone think of something i may have overlooked?

Awesome!

:righton: :righton: Just awesome Mark!!!! I can't wait to see these new tutes up! [excited] [excited]

Yeah, that looks like it's going to be awesome to work with. MAybe add like little blinky lights or something. Just a suggestion, the things you have right now are wicked.

wow I think you covered everything Mark...... :righton: if I think of something I will let you know he he he

Ok cool thanks guys. If any does think of something else, post it here please.

One thing i just thought of, (and i don't know why!) is a metal gurder... like the kind used for a sky-scaper. That could be useful... i'll add that to the bunch. :D

How about little toggle switches (the ones that you flip up and down like on aircraft cockpits) or maybe little inset monitor screens and such. (not LCD, LCD readouts have been done to death.

Ya, toggle switches, good idea.

By monitor ya mean as in a tv or comp monitor screen?... or?... like an airport screen with blips and wireframe graphics and stuff on it?...

hahaha ya maybe Alistair... but hey... that's why i created the site in the first place so... no biggy. ;)

And besides... i'll also be just naming a lot of stuff too, that can be created using the same techniques that are used for certain other effects. So it won't be too involved. [excited]

yes ;)

When I look at the pic you posted, I think of like milspec style stuff.. you know with the faded yellow stripes on the side and the funky metal handles with screwed in metal panels everywhere.

There's another one. You might talk about how to put scratched up paint on stuff. Like metal that's been painted and it's wearing through or been scratched off. Just one of those effects that not everyone can figure out and it adds some realism to surfaces.

Ya i like that kind of image too MB.

See the texture on the left at the top? That's a rusty, faded paint, metal wall type texture. We'll cover that, as well as the others there and also go over some ideas about how to apply filters to create some other texturing effects. :righton: :B

wow! tutorials on request? :}

let's see... rotating buttons, tubes with liquid, potentiometers..
do you intend to split the elements/ screws, tubes, etc...?

Ya first was the stuff in the image on the left, above.
Next is the pipe and bars... plus bending/shaping them as well. And with those is caps, collars, plugs, etc...
Then wires, cables, hoses, etc... they're almost the same as pipes.
Then buttons, knobs, sliders, etc...
Then there's the nuts, bolts, screws, metal plating, etc.
And last will be textures.

rotating buttons, tubes with liquid, potentiometers
That stuff will all be simple to create using the same methods as will be used for the above elements. No biggy... :righton: :B

Oh Wow [stuned] this is cool Mark. Just what I needed as well.

I've always wanted to build a site for myself. But I don't know where to start. Will you be adding tips like special effects - ie. a tail of say- stars instead of cursor or adding anis? I love to learn those things.

:bustagut: The personal requests are now coming in! ;) I'm keeping an eye on this thread only because, like Vee, I might want to build a website for myself one day! ;)

B7 Too cool gurus! I just don't know of another site that gets this kind of personal attention! [excited]

Mark, you're amazing!!! :D :righton: :}

hahaa aaa... hold on a sec... did we vear off into another area here and i missed it?! ;\

We ARE still talking about a new section of tutes on how to construct 3D elements for an interface... aren't we? [stuned]
I'm not sure how "Websites" came about as part of this topic. Albeit Websites DO use interfaces... so perhaps that's where the corelation comes in...?

interfaces-------->websites....... [innocent] I'm thinking that there might be a correlation that might explain the "flood of requests" Mark! :D ;)

Then buttons, knobs, sliders, etc...

<beavis> Uh... he said knobs... huh huh huh... knob.... </butthead> :D

Personal requests of Grand Master ?ber Pooba Mark???? oooooooooooo........... it's like Christmas in July... in May... um. Yeah.
GIMME! hehe :righton:
