Hello all,

I'm new to the board but it looks like a good forum.
:)

I have Photoshop v 5.5 and what I want to do is create a simple ani' gif, so is the bundled 'Image Ready' my best option? To do this In 'Image Ready', I understand that I should open a simple jpeg. I can then tween add frames and preview it via the optimized preview box and via the animation tool palette. Great ten frames of a bouncing ball, All I want to do is then save those frames as a gif, I can only seem to get a save jpeg option? I don't understand the help file for creating an animation in IR.

An idiots guide would be most appreciated.

Hi, Spoon Head, and welcome to PSG Forums!

In ImageReady, your best bet is to start with a layered Photoshop file, not a jpg. You can then use the layers as the basis of your animation, and/or tweening one or more layers.

When you get your animation like you want it, make sure you have the Optimize palette open, optimize your file, using the GIF option. When you're using a psd (Photoshop format) file for an animation, that should be the default choice. (You can choose the 2 up or 4 up options so you can see what you're doing.

I'll try that one AppleCider. A layered psd file sounds a bit mad for image ready, but hey.

I agree with AC. Tho you can use a jpeg in IR, you have better control if you do the ani in layers in PS. Saves you a lot of trouble.

I'd say 90% of all the anis you'll see around here are IR made.

Not using a layered psd file sounds more mad ;)

The whole concept of Imageready and it's animation part is the use of layers and that's one of the reasons why Imagready and Photoshop work so well together. It's a bit silly that you assume that the use of layers in Imageready sounds mad, when you never really used the program don't you think ;)
