Hello, and welcome to PsG.

Without seeing the channel, it is quite difficult to answer. It sounds like a posterization

The old school method would be to target a channel in the relevant panel, then use a linear gradient in difference mode.

 

I would try to use a non destrucive method: using a gradient, and in the blending options, check only the  red channel, and play with the blending modes.

But it's been a while that I haven't played with Chops (channel operations)


What is our favorite program/app? (Hint - it begins and ends with the letter P)
