Layer mask issue...

How would I make a line drawing the mask in a layer mask?
I want a drawing I made to be the actual mask on another layer...
I don't know if I'm asking the question correctly..
I need the black in a drawing I made to be the actual mask in a layer mask. Where the black of my drawing allows the picture below to show thru...
I know it can be done but can't figure it out for the life of me..

Activate layer with drawing, Ctrl + A (select all), Ctrl+C (copy), activate layer that needs mask, add mask, ALT + click on mask thumbnail to show the mask in your document windows, CTRL + V (paste).

Thank you. peekingrabbit.. you wouldn't beleive the time I spent on this issue today!
The move I was missing was the Alt + click mask thumbnail..
It was driving me crazy.
