Hi there,

I'm not sure if I'm chancing my luck here, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with something? I've been attempting to create a logo, but having not used Photoshop for a LONG time, and even back when I did I was fairly terrible at it, I was hoping someone might be able to either give me some pointers or help me a long a bit.

I'm looking to create a logo of a record/vinyl bag that I can put some text on the flap of. I've made a very, very awful mock-up of how I imagine it to look:

Yeah. Don't laugh. Or at least try not to..

Anyway, that's just to show you the basic idea. All my attempts to get it actually looking like something you could use that wouldn't be considered a joke have fallen flat.

So, basically, I need help. In any form. Ideas on where to start, how I should go about it, tutorials that I need to read, advice to "give up now, you're a failure".. etc.

Be gentle.

Thanks!

Hi omron, the first suggestion I would have is to read hawkeye's post (#3) in this thread on the vanishing point filter. This will help you after you've made a font selection to go on your record bag.

As for the bag itself, is this just a freehand render or did it come from an actual photo?

The bag was just me scribbling something to give you a general idea of what I had in my mind. So a freehand render.

Thanks for that thread reference, I'll have a look at the post you mentioned and the rest of it.

Cheers for the interest too!

I found an image of a bag I liked.
I opened it in Photoshop, duplicated the image, turned off the original.
I removed the background from the duplicated bag. (I made a selection and added a layer mask.)
I then added an CURVES adjustment layer and blacked out the bag.
I selected the blacked out bag and filled it with the silver.
Add in a text layer.
Use the transform function (skew and perspective) to adjust the text.
Added a new layer below all others and filled with white.

If this is not detailed enough, let me know!

Perfect! I'm quietly confident I can handle that. Some of your instructions even ring a few bells from using Photoshop way back.

Thanks IamSam!

I'll even come back soon and posts the (hopefully) amazing results.
