Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a detailed tutorial on brush techniques/filters/liquify to make a photograph look like it was hand-drawn. This is an example of what I mean (images too big so I'll link them):
Before:

After:
View attachment 14623
Notes:
- Please don't say anything about photo copyright infringement because #1 I'm using my own photographs and #2 I'm not going to sell these pictures or use them in any commercial purpose, it's for a personal project only (picture storybook)
- Both video tutorial or text tutorial are fine, but please be detailed as I'm pretty new to brushes in photoshop, but I am experienced in sketching stuff on paper
Thanks.

well there is no special technique just a lot of skill your literally just painting over an image I dont think you will see a plugin that will do it that well for you.

Yes I know most of it is just painting over it with brushes. However there are also filteres and masks and stuff involved. So I was looking for some tutorials on these techniques, specifically in editing human portraits. Areas like eyelashes and mouth are pretty hard.

(There doesn't seem to be an edit function?)
Hmm the links are working for me. I'll link them directly with URL.

Hi KLan, I like what you did. She already looks like a drawing. Of course, depending on what you want to achieve, you can go steps further or in another direction. I would suggest searching this forum and playing around with filters. Brushes can add something but Hoogle is right in tht a lot of what you do will be skill and talent. Paul can give you tips and probably tutorials on liquify.

There is a plugin studio I have not tried myself called Manga studio however it is designed for drawing manga characters not sure if it will offer anything like what your after though. I am afraid there is no quick solution for this That I know off well certainly no where near as good quality

Hiya thanks for replies.
Those two pictures are not my work lol. I was linking them for an example on what I'd like to achieve. I'm not planning to do anything more complicated than the "after" picture, the "after" picture is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. I'm doing a storybook so I want to use some of my photos, but using only photos is so boring so I want to make them look like they're hand-drawn and painted.
Any tutorials/help are appreciated! I saw a video of this however it was in fast-forward mode (as with lots of video tutorials), so I'm unable to see any steps at all. From what I was able to see it they had to cover certain areas of the face including hair with some kind of mask (almost looks like facial cream lol), then sketch out outlines of facial features with the brush. It would be great if there exists a detailed tutorial on this type of photo manipulation.

This will help you, you just need to twist it slightly and apply your own little touches to it, i use this type of thing most of the time, then apply varying techniques via the brush tool and my old favourite liquify, your second image is a studio quality reproduction, using a very skilled artist and his/her tool box of tricks.
