no to above reply, and to the first reply....

right clicking on the layer mask or the actual layer thumnial does not bring up the menu item "remove background layer" there is a disable layer mask option - thats no good.

if i want to delete the layer mask i can simply drag it to the trask icon within the layers pallet. I need photoshop to stop adding a default white layer mask to every adjustment layer i create. I need an adjustment layer with no layer mask atall.

My workflow actions which are critical for my day to day work will not work in photoshop cs4 keeps creating default layer masks each time a new adjustment layer is added.

just try the following yourself.

1. open up a photo.

2. add an adjustment layer, say a levels one will do.

3. now do you see the "white mask" that photoshop has added to the levels adjustment layer thats the thing i need to stop photoshop from automatically doing every time i need an adjustment layer.
