I'm on  an Apple (dual 2.3 GHz + 5 Gig of Ram), so this may not apply.

But if I open and process more than twenty-five/thirty RAW files at a time,

things slow down to a crawl.  They still open.  Just takes longer than I would like.

If you have your photoshop settings optimally adjusted, you are still looking

at a giant processing equation that takes into account not only your machine's

speed and RAM, but also the size of the RAW files, the number of files you are

opening, how much swap space you have allocated on your drive, how full your

drive is, etc...

Could it be that you need to open and process (i.e. convert to .jpg) fewer RAW files at a time?

PS - I also find creating an action and automating the conversion to be a tremendous help.

What is our favorite program/app? (Hint - it begins and ends with the letter P)
