New Monitor and now Gamma problems!

Ahoy!

I so I just got a brand new monitor after my last one died!
Obviously, the first thing I did was start up Photoshop.
Much to my dismay, I found that when I bring up any image, it looks incredibly dark. It's as if the Gamma settings are low JUST for photoshop (as everything else is as bright and clear as day). This is probably a very simple problem to solve. Admittedly, I'm quite new to Photoshop as a whole. Still, I thought I'd ask the Gurus ;)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi DJ3J and welcome to the board :righton:

Does it help if you hold Ctrl+Shift+Alt when you start Photoshop; this will reset the preference file.

Do you also have a problem with other graphics related software?

Welcome to the community DJ3J, hope you enjoy your stay. [excited]

In case this was overlooked... you may still be using the ICM profile that was for your previous monitor. There could be a large incompatibility issue there if your new monitor is of a higher quality.

If using Windows, try this to check and/or remove the current ICM profile (if you're even using one, but check anyway):

Right-click the Desktop.
Choose "Properties".
Choose "Settings".
Choose "Advanced".
Choose the "Color Management" tab.

If you see an ICM profile in the list window, click it and press Remove.

Generally... it nevers hurts to go to the Website of the company that makes your monitor, and see if they provide drivers for your model. That will be the appropriate ICM profile you need.

It's not something real obvious, and it may not solve this specific issue... but it certainly won't hurt to do this anyway. ;)

What version of Photoshop are you running? Have you tried running Adobe Gamma?
