I haven't tried both.

Like erik said, Poser Artist is a tamer version of P5. Poser 5 has a better render engine but contains bugs according to a lot of users. Even the fix upgrades don't fair well. That's one reason why I didn't upgrade mine. But then again, let's see.......

Give the trial download a try.

Hang on though, DAZ will release their version of poser hopefully by the end of the year. Don't shoot me , too, if I'm wrong . Their words yaknow.
