Great tutorial. B7 Thanks. :)

I just start with the first part and did this new hair style to Claudia.

Go, Lily!

:righton: Woo Hoo Lily! Well done! :}

I look forward to finding some time to, maybe, get into this one this one this weekend, Stroker! [excited]

Sorry about the images. I'm still working on getting them hosted. I will probably go back to my ISP space, but they have been getting worse lately.

[confused] Funny you should reply just now, Stroker... I was just checking out your tute and noticed all the broken links!

[oops]

I got the images back on my other server. You should be able to see them, but this server is the tempermental one.

Next part coming soon, like later today.

edit:
Up already. Amazing how fast I can work when I'm left alone.

I think that Stroker's tutorial is rather useless for most of us.

It's highly technical and to be honest... Stroker doesn't have the talent to explain things in a way that is easy to understand, at least not for me.

It's a lot of mambo jambo of some guy who's probably a mathematician instead of an artist.

I don't think that his tutorials are very useful for the majority of Photoshop users }:\

That's the spirit, Chester!
I don't think that his tutorials are very useful for the majority of Photoshop users
I'm going to steal that quote.

This is the Photoshop General forum, not the Beginners forum.
I have always liked Stroker's approach because in the end, all digital stuff *is* pure math.
But then I would never consider myself to be mr. majority.

Keep it friendly, please!

;)

Stroker and wbiss Thanks!

wbiss it is great to use for our filter challange. I am working on some new images with Stroker`s tut and outcome are amuzing.

Chester Displacment filter is very powerful and not easy to
learn. I do appreciate very much Stroker`s tutorials.

I confess, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around displacement in general, and Stroker's tute specifically.

But, what I don't understand is my fault, not Stroker's or the tute's. I know I have limited knowledge of displacement. I also know that it's a complex thing, and involves math (not my strength). So I don't expect anyone to explain it to me so I instantly can understand it. (Try that with Algebra, Calculus, etc.)

But I will learn it! [slick]

Many moons ago, I used to tutor math. Yeah, big surprise. Back then, I learned a little trick and I'm passing the savings on to you.

When things start to get confusing, just remember that 2+2=4. Sit back, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and say 2+2=4.

Yes, something that simple does help. Not so much the simple arithmatic, but the idea of going backing up, sometimes to the very beginning. If you can't do basic addition, how can you expect to differentiate a trigonomic polynomial?

So, take it one piece at a time. Take the time to play and understand the small chunks.

Say it with me.
2+2=4
I knew you could.

...2+2=4...

I have wanted to say this for a while, and seeing as how chester has decided (and seems to always decide) to let loose i figured i would also - I have enjoyed my time at the forum less and less as our members seem to grow.

I think there is much to say Chester for "constructive" criticism (and then there is just bitching for the sake of getting your name up on the board). Glad Stoker's tute isn't for you, cause I like it, and I can't say i'm happy with you lumping "the majority of us" in with you. And just out of curiosity, why did you come here if all you wanted to do was point out people faults and disagree with their opinions. Nothing wrong with doing that of course, if there is a healthy balance of respect added in there.

I'd really like to say something else, but... [shhh] a little riled,

Oh, and great job Stroker - one of these days i think some of this may sink in!!

People didn't agree with my earlier post, but I only need to quote the last two replies...

"one of these days i think some of this may sink in!!"

"I confess, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around displacement in general, and Stroker's tute specifically"

I guess I was right :bustagut:

No, Chester, you are mostly wrong. So far, you have made only one valid point. But, in the interest of not wasting time and the health of these boards, I won't get dragged into your silly world.
Please stop before things get out of hand. Nothing good will come from your negativity.
Just walk away and let us kids have our fun.

big picture

As I've gotten older I am now seeing the poetry of math. I wish I had given more of a go at it when I wqas younger. Some great artists were very proficient at math and very technical. Look at Leonardo Di Vinci or most recently Joeseph Albers or Mondrian or MC. Escher. Math and technical and being an artist do go hand in hand. Look at some of the patterns that come ot of Mathamatica or the patterns of of the artlandia plug ins with illustrator. Pure math - and look at the results - not to mention as Erik said - look at photoshop.
Chester- I am new to photoshop and I get frustrated with it, but give it time. I think this is a revolutionary program and theres never been anything like it. so don't dump on a guy who's paid his dues and knows what he's talking about.

Chester, quoting out of context, and leaving out relevant parts of what people say is the oldest trick in the book, and the easiest to see through, especially when said quote is just a couple of posts up. So, please don't use what I said to "make your point" when what I said was just the opposite.

You quoted:

I confess, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around displacement in general, and Stroker's tute specifically.

The rest of it:

But, what I don't understand is my fault, not Stroker's or the tute's. I know I have limited knowledge of displacement. I also know that it's a complex thing, and involves math (not my strength). So I don't expect anyone to explain it to me so I instantly can understand it. (Try that with Algebra, Calculus, etc.)

But I will learn it!

My final words;

AppleCider; it's not up to the student to decide if he/she is a bad student

Stroker; the greatest teachers are those who admit their mistakes

Chester [upset] Stop using this tread for your opinion about something that you don`t know.

Once again please respect those who knows and share their knowledge.
