One learning source to rule them all?

Hi,

I'm looking to get better at photoshop (I know aren't we all) as I've just signed up to cloud - but are there any really good guides\tutorial series\DVDs I could run through to take me through the basics, scaling up to advanced.

It will be a little odd for me as I can follow fairly complex tutorials and do a decent job of it, but the problem is when I want to use it for something specific I don't really understand what I'd done if you follow me.My ultimate aim is to produce interesting (tutorial worthy) composite images from some of my own images, or if I'm honest playing about as a hobby - the problem is I'm a bit of a perfectionist (not that you could tell by my shots :D) and get frustrated if its no at least close to some of the better stuff out there.I have an image in my mind of having the source material (DVD\youtube\PDF\whatever) on my right screen and me following it on the left - preferably using the shiny new tablet I've just be given as a (early) father's day present. Is this realistic - are there such great series out there?

Thanks for reading through my waffle!

Edit:
After poking about for a bit I've ordered this (Video2Brain Photoshop CS6) as a starting point as its structured and has decent reviews. I'll look to a more composite based solution later when I have a better understanding of the basics.

Cheers for those - I just subscribed to them all :)
Well except for NAPP, I'll see whats missing before plunging into a paid service.

Plenty of fun in there by the look of it.

Hi Lumpsack, welcome to the forum.

The video you bought looks interesting. I wonder how much will be ad and how much tut. JK.

I'm a fan of lynda.com and you can always try it for one month after you've exhausted your other resources. You will find very organized and extensive training there. Others like kelby; I just haven't used them.

There are plenty of free tutorials on the web, but it is not as easy to find a collection of basic skills as it is for creating effects. PSD tuts+ does have such a collection. I have not tried it out, but have used a number of tutorials they publish and am pleased with those.

Enjoy! and let us know how it's going, questions, work to share, etc.

Thanks all - yep, I'll give a bit of feedback on the vid when I've had a go of it.

I'd not heard of the Photoshop certification curriculum - I take it thats a pay for service... ah nevermind I've found it.

Maybe if I suddenly find myself looking for a new career - for now I'm just playing about so am keeping it cheap.
