ok i'll post screens grabs if need but for now just the text version.

Simple enough, I'm using PS 7 on an PC. I draw a simple box path with four points. Then hold "Ctrl" and click it. That turns it into a selection. If i draw another box around that. (a square dounut) and "Ctrl" click the path all i get is a large box selection. Not a dounut selection. If i do the same thing in v 5.5 (that i have a work) no matter what type of path i drawn it selects every line.

The really annoying part above the above problem. It is not all the time. I have repeated it, after starting a new file. And have called up old files from a long ago as a month. Created the above path type and most of the time it will not work. GRRRRR But, it has worked a few times. I just can't find a common factor.

Thanks for any help?

I just wonder if you are using the 'path tool' correctly...

To make the 'selection' that you described, I used the rectangular tool, and drew a simple box using the 'path tool'. I then drew a second box inside the first box using the 'subtract from path option'. I saved my path and clicked the layer in the paths palette and the selection was made as shown in my example.

Is this how you are doing it James? [confused]

If I draw a box with the pen tools and after that click while holding Ctrl, then I get the path selection tool. The path doesn't change to a selection [confused]
