Pictures are so small when I open them in Photoshop

so I make a document thats 1024x1024 pixels, I go and select a picture to drag into photoshop, when I do this, the picture appears to be like 2x2 pixels instead of the original size of 1900x1600 pixels, what is wrong?

The resolution is lower on the pictures you're dragging in. Change the resolution on your file to 72 dpi and see what happens...
