I thought that I would start a new thread just for the plugins in PS

Because I am starting PS from a new install - again ;\
this means that I have nothing at all in there except what comes with ps 7

for all of my brushes, shapes etc I have an outside folder where in here lies individual folders for all of the free and custom made brushes etc lie within and I load them from there.........

what I am asking is should I have a folder called plugins and reinstall all of my plugins eg: dreamsuite eyecandy etc into here....... I remember when I have installed them before they ask for my plugins folder..... do I put here my outside folder which I have named plugins? or should I have them in the ps plugins folder?

I only have a couple of 3rd party PS plugins now,but I used to have native PS plugins in the PS folder and alias/shortcut to the 3rd party ones ,thats what I do with after effects and Illustrator as well :)

thanks Stu....... it's just that I had a huge scrolling list in my filters selection before and just wondered if I should put them back or not :B

Hey Erik...... in another thread you wrote the following......

The way I do it it as follows. Let's say I have KPT6. Then I install KPT6 into a folder named KPT6 inside the Plugins folder (I make all the subfolders for each plugin before I install). Then I rightclick on the folder called KPT6 and choose Make shortcut. This shortcut I place inside Program Files>Adobe>Photoshop6 (or7)>Plugins. And when I open Photoshop, the plugin is there.

You can also open Photoshop, go to Edit>Preferences>Plugins and Scratch Disks and checkmark "Additional Plugins Directory". You the go to your plugins folder (or the one in PS6) and restart PS. Normally they should all be there. I didn't do that, so I can't guarantee it works flawlessly. I know for example that in 6 you had to install a gig plugin. In 7 you don't, and I don't know how that will work out.

when you installed each plugin and you get to the part of choose plugin folder........... did you choose the adobe/photoshop/plugin or....... the C:/plugins (your outside folder of ps)?

I have a separate folder on C: that I called Plugins. And all the plugins go in there, in their own subfolder (very tidy). Then I make a shortcut to every subfolder, and give these their own subfolder. Example in your case:

folder Plugins
subfolder !shortcuts (containing shortcuts of the following subfolders. with the ! it stays on top))
subfolder Dreamsuite
subfolder Eyecandy
subfolder Extensis Photobevel
subfolder Flaming Pear SBP
etc etc etc

and then I paste the shortcuts in the Photoshop plugins folder. Practically speaking, I leave them all in the PS PI folder. Yet, if I want to remove something: I cut and paste the shortcut back to its original shortcuts subfolder, and out of PS.
