Given that the problem only seems to occur when moving the opacity slider in PS and with no other program, I remain unconvinced that this is a pure hardware problem. 


So, I fully second Larry's most recent post (#19) where he suggested performing a test with the latest version of PS. 


After all, that is exactly the same suggestion that Adobe lists second on their web page about GPU problems when using PS:

PS - What about the other troubleshooting suggestions Adobe makes on that page?  Have you done those?
