Problems with Image curve

Hey guys im having a problem with trying to figure out how to make the greyness part move around?
cant find a setting that does this.
im trying to follow a tutor and their example is like this where its grey really high on the left side.

I am pretty sure the grey line is just a guide to show the original location I dont think it is adjustable.

Are you sure the tutorial is not going into the different channels and adjusting them

im having trouble making the darker parts wrap around the circle. and only thing i can think of its cause the greyness part isnt like in the example
