Hi,

how do i reduce the opacity on parts of an image, i have tried selecting part of the image with the marque tool and then reducing the opacity but it still reduces it for the full image.

thanks in advance

It is really easy...once you know it :)
Add a layer mask to the layer in question.
select the layer mask, by clicking on it.
Select the Brush tool (or any other painting method)
Now, if you paint the layer mask with black it becames full transparent revealing whatever is beyond.
Of course that you have to tweak the brush and the intensity of black to get the desired effect.
You can even change settings like brightness/contrast of the layer mask.
