Specific remove back ground /cutout horse

I need to have the background removed, so only the horse's head is left. I have tried but some of the mane disappears and there's still some white by the horses face etc. can anyone help? I wanted to have the horses head printed on a shirt for my daughter for xmas- it's her horse -- but it seems impossible to do this :-( Even the printing company has tried and it looks awfull. Hope you can help me
