Selecting highlights problem

I can't get Ctrl + Alt + ~ keyboard short cut to work which selects the highlights in an image. The problem is that on my keyboard I have to press Alt Gr to make ~ so can't use Ctrl + Alt + ~ . How can I change the short cut? I know that you can select the highlights by "Select -> Color Range.. -> Highlights" but the result is not as soft as with the short cut. Are there any other ways to select the highlights?

OK-this one is stumping me.
First of all, put this down as the coolest tip I've heard in a while-I had no idea you could do that! :righton: :righton:
As to your problem, can you be more specific? What version of Photoshop are you running? I don't understand what you mean by Alt + Gr to make ~, can you clarify that? And why specifically do you have to use that key combination? Is it a funky keyboard you have, or some other software you're running that is dictating this usage?
I Googled "changing keyboard shortcuts" and found an answer that said there is a "Keyboard Shortcuts" option under the Edit menu--this is for Photoshop CS I presume (I run 7.0 and it ain't there).
If it is there I'm not sure if that will help you (I figure if it was that simple you would have discovered that already).
Beyond that I couldn't find a way to alter the shortcuts-hopefully someone out there knows how (if it's possible) or has a better workaround.
The only thing I can suggest is to determine why you lost the ~ character in the first place and revert to a setup that recliams it for you, unless you have a compelling reason for staying that way.
More info please!

If you're in RGB mode, go to your channels palette and Alt+Click the RGB composite channel.

I have CS but I couldn't find the shortcut in the Keyboard Shortcut editor..

Alt+Click the RGB composite channel work fine. Thanks!

It is great that you can select the highlights and copy them to another layer and change the blending mode or whatever you want, I like to darken the highlights when I work with black and white photos..
