Ya, that's the stuff I love, organic mechanical. Great job Ron, as always great attention to lighting and texture.

Are the perspectives of the jaw "pipes" and the bottom "fangs" out of sync. you think?

Wonderful. "Organic Mechanicals" is a great term for this type of art.

I think the reason it seems like most people like this sort of art 'best' is that it is clean, both detailed and abstract at the same moment, and implies a possible reality while letting the imagination take over and run rampant. That doesn't mention the attraction of the skill required to produce such imagery.

This is my favorite style as well. I feel it's more challenging both technically and creatively to produce.
Unfortunately, much is lost at the low res required for the screen. But I'm pleased that I can consentrate on this style now. I'd be more than happy to explain how to do them, but as I tried to impart in a previous post, I break alot of PS rules. Adobe tends to try to make things much harder than they are. I simply threw out the 'Guide' a long time ago and made my own rules.

I also like this style the best. Very "organic" as Welles said. Love it!
I didn't know there were PS rules or 'guide'. Are you saying Adobe makes techniques much harder or just learning the app? As for me; I tought myself PS. I learned alot from some tutorials and the rest I made up. I don't really have any "rules" per say, just ways of doing stuff.

By 'rules' I'm refering to things like, layer sets, clipping and masking etc. I'm assuming there are rules only because I get photoshop native docs for correction that are massive. Layer sets, locked and unlocked sets, actions all combined to create a simple page or an ad. Hundreds of layers, Tens of sets. Some almost impossible to repair. These kind of files are so common,, I assume someone, somewhere is teaching photoshop this way. Also, the way Adobe instructs to do many things in the user manual is, in many cases, the very long way around. There's an arrogant SOB I used to work with who actually told me that I "couldn't do things" the way I did them. He'd taken a class in PS. and was taught 'the right way'. I'm with you Patrick. I taught myself. I would probably horrify many PS purists who wouldn't waste any time informing me that I don't know what I'm doing. So, I can show you what 'I' do to achieve certain things. You may not agree with them. PS and I have a very 'organic' relationship. Usually what I want to do, gets done pretty effortlessly, the file is small and very manageable. But then I'm fairly prolific and practice makes *******. ;)

Anyone who is really creative with any set of tools uses them in original ways and develops idiosyncratic techniques.

Anyone who doesn't teach with an attitude which implies "figure out your own way, here is what I've discovered," is not very much of a creative and reflects the cynical adage, 'those who can't do, teach.'

Welles. I have responded to requests for 'Technique tutes'. In fact I posted one yesterday in the
'campfire section' I will continue to do this as long as I am requested to. That's why I'm on this forum.
I certainly don't require constant recognition for my work. I'm pretty secure with what I do. I don't post to intimidate people. I simply want people to respond not by telling me I'm really good. I'd like the response to 'How did you do that and can you show me'. I'll show anyone. They just have to ask.

Welles's post was not a snipe at you, ronmatt.

We've had some members who were real difficult to get along with in the past because of their arrogance. We all recognize your talent and welcome your contribution to this forum.

You keep doing what you're doing. Anyone who thinks something can be done only one way in PS is obviously smoking something they shouldn't.
