you see here, there is lot of red in this picture. Also, there is a bright, almost white, white patch on the face of kid.. This is what I wanna fix..

Thanks a lot for helping me out..

I'm not very good at this. It's been a long time since photo correction was my focus.

This image immediately makes me think channel mixer. Make adjustments in all three channels then go back through the channels to fine tune the color. I think there there is not a lot of leeway given the lighting conditions. I did some channel mix adjustments and a few other layer adjustments, ie: levels, hue/sat, and contrast. I think it would be good to take through Camera Raw, but I don't know if you could adjust enough for the color. In fact, I don't have the abilities or know if you can adjust it. But you could adjust the color some first, then open it in Camera Raw as a jpeg and see what you can accomplish there. If there is any detail in the highlights that concern you, it does a good job with the recovery slider.

You can also do selective sharpening in Camera Raw and cut down on some of the noise. Or you can do it in PS. Make your layer a smart object, sharpen it some, then blur it and use the blur filter mask to remove the blur from facial features you want to keep, eg: eyes, nares, ears, mouth, etc. This should also soften the bright area on the cheek, nose, etc..

My edition of this. Used Camera Raw first, mainly sharpening. Used PS Hue and Saturation adjustment. Then used the HDR toning adjustment and brought the detail down to soften a bit. Not too bad but could be sharper IMHO.PSGuru.jpg
Oops I forgot the white spot on the little boys face-fix that easily with the spot healing tool.

I like Camera Raw though it can be hard to learn without guidance. (Gee, sounds like PS) I took the above jpeg I "fixed up" and opened it in Camera Raw. I made some adjustments to highlights and shadow, a little contrast and vibrance. Like Laser, I found it was best for the sharpening. I used some masking in Camera Raw to restrict the sharpen.

Then I went back to PS and did some more color work with a color balance adjustment. I added a gaussian blur and as I said above, used the filter mask to pick out details. Then I cloned the highlights. Finally, I used the smudge tool to soften some of the noise that I would have had to blur too much to get rid of. I overdid the smudge a bit, lol.

I guess it's important to know how to do this kind of "fix," but I hope you won't have to work with pictures of this quality very often!

channelMIX as Smart Object-1.jpg

I like that you were able to get rid of the green cast Laser. Was that using the HDR? I just didn't like the red blotches you ended up with. But there is some handiwork in this image you can't avoid, so that could be cloned out too. Nice job.

I also like the B&W approach Mike.

here is my effort

main thing you have to do is get the detail back into the green and blue channel.
i did that by blending the red with both of those channels.
then just some color correction and blur duplicate layer and blend it and then use the original layer to bring some of the detail back.

problem with this image is the green and blue are really badly damaged and lot of noise

Clare,
yes, my old eyes are failing me a bit and I didn't see the red blotches until after I posted it and zoomed in on it. I'll try and be more cautious in the future. Thanks for the compliment anyway. The HDR toning does wonders with something like this. I especially like the Detail control, in a good photo it works magic on noise. Smoothing skin is a snap with it.

I tried RAW and ended up with more red and noise in the result..gotta keep playing.
