Hi all, newbie here in desperate need of some help! Long story short, I don't have an artistic bone in my body but what I do have is a tattoo on my back that looks as though it was done by a five year old. I'm hoping to have a cover up tatt done, and I'm hoping some of you amazing people may be able to help me.
I want an abstract design to completely cover the text but I don't want anything too much bigger than I already have. I quite like swirls, I don't like Celtic designs. I would prefer it all in black but am open to color. I would be OK with a swirly butterfly or angel or something like that.
Please have a look and let me know if you can help :)

First off, the tattoo you have is pretty raised in most letters telling me that the 'artist' was to deep and to many strokes taken to cover the area, this causes the tell tale raised ink bubbles that is actually scar tissue now.
Your problem now is you don't really want to go much bigger, the bigger issue is letters are really hard to hide, it's all the dark edges.
This will need a good artist and some time, i recommend you visit a registered tattoo artist and ask there advice as to cover ups, as cover ups are another skill in them selves.
Has for designs yeah i will put some up, but remember they might make you go yeah i like that, but it probably would not work as a good enough tattoo cover up for YOUR tattoo, hope you understand all that, but thats how it is with cover ups sorry.

Thanks for the quick response Paul, I quite like your design. I really would prefer to cover it up because I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I hate the thought of having it on display forever, but I understand that it will be difficult and probably not perfect anyway. I'm going back to the place I got it done at but seeing the boss this time and not the old guy with vision problems!

Good luck with your quest, sorry i couldn't wave a magic wand for you, but this is what tattoos can be. If you go colour it can be done but it would be a lot of vibrant colours and probably a big design, black work would be over blocky and to bold, the placement is also wrong on your original tattoo, unless you asked for it to be that low for hiding purposes?

I did actually want it that bit lower so I could hide it. You're right about the black being blocky I think, what kind of colours do you think would work? Like I said, if that will work better then I'm open to it.

My problem is i am not there looking at your back so all i can offer are really suggestions.
How about retro 50's styled colours with lots of bubble gum pinks and dull reds etc?

Good point. The pinks and reds sound pretty good, but I'm more of a blues and greens girl. Having said that, I have no idea what would work with my skin tone, you would know more than me!

Like i said not there to determine the answer really.
