Specific Transparent background

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me change a background for a peice of course work I am presenting
I would like help altering the background of this image:




I am aiming for the background to be transparent so i am just left with the world map, (the ledgend doesnt matter).

Something like this?
The background shows white wich is the color of this webpage but there isn't any background on the map.
