Trouble making gif animation

I'm using an older version of PS (CS2 it was free) to try and make my first gif animation. I'm having some trouble opening an mp4 file (not supported). Does anyone know if I can make a gif with CS2?

Do I need to open the video using a different file format, or am I gonna need to upgrade my PS... any ideas?

You have to have a suitable graphics card support in order to import avi's or mp4's (I think) into CS.

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't really explain how to make it from a video. The article only explains how to do it if you're making an animated gif from scratch...

you can't just import a .mp4 and convert it to .gif in photoshop

Here's a link explaining both ways to make an animated GIF. It's using CS6, but the import video into layers command that you need should still be available on CS2. It does also state that PS will only import movies 500 frames or less so you might need to trim it a bit.
