Hello!

I´m a new member and my first post will be a question!

Short explainedI´m making a DVD cover for a customer . The cover will basically look like a cover that the customer had made a few years ago. It is only going to be scaled to new format and adjusted a bit here and there. Unfortunately , the customer has not been able to find the original files for the cover. What I have to work with are some jpegs that show the old cover and the original color images.

So what I have to do is take the original image ( the color one ) and treat it so that it looks like the one in black and white. The only problem is that I can't figure out how to do this... Looks easy though...

What I have tried to do is ( after rdeleting background and turned it to grayscale ) made it to bitmap in slightly different ways , experimenting with different resolution etc , but the effect is not the same.

Maybe someone in here who can figure out what has been done ? All help is very appreciated! Thanks in advance !

It looks like monochromatic noise was added to the picture

I'm looking at it very small on an iPhone just a gues

Take the original image and isolate the subject from his background. There are several methods for doing this. I would just manually add a layers mask and used the Brush Tool to isolate the subject.

When done, I would duplicate the layer (command + J) and merge the newly duplicated layer and the mask by right clicking the mask and selecting "Apply Mask". Turn off the previous layer.

I would then add a brightness and contrast adjustment under IMAGE > ADJUSTMENTS > BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST, and brightened the image.

I would then desaturate by going to IMAGE > ADJUSTMENTS > DESATURATE (shift + command + U). I would then go to FILTER > NOISE > ADD NOISE, set it to 22.

I would then add a new layer BELOW this layer and fill with white. I would then create a new layer above the white BG layer and used the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create the blue and red vertical stripes.

Desaturated image then made copy via quick mask, converted new copy to screen overlay added noise monochromatic box ticked. Then i made a new layer made a threshold adjustment or two applied that layer with soft light.
New layer two rectangular boxes one red one blue left side applied then softened slightly, made as one layer then applied another noise layer set at 3%.

Thanks!

These tips definitely pointed me in the right direction. Starting to look really good.
What a great and friendly forum!

I hope I can be of some help in the future.

Once again, thanks!
