trying to learn how to create unique shapes

I'm trying to create unique shapes like the red and purple ones in this photo. I'm not sure what wording to use to search on how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Hello and welcome.

If I'm viewing the correct shapes from the image, you need to learn how to use the Pen Tool.
