Hi everyone,
I'm new to Photoshop and to forums, posts.

my project~~~ i want to take a photo of someone and turn them into one of those "Bratz" dolls. they have little skinny bodies, big head and huge eyes. I'm doing a slide show for my daughter's high school graduation party.

my ?~~~ can it be done in PSCS2? and if it can, how do i do it.

here is a "Bratz" doll

thanks for your help in advance!

why don't you post a photo of what you want converted to the doll? That way we can take a look at the project and advise more precisely. Most anything can be achieved in PS unless, of course, the photo is a low quality 'snapshot' in which the subjects face is 1/4". That would be much more difficult.

I agree... this IS possible, with a decent quality and size photo to work with.

It IS however going to take a good amount of work to do.
I immmediately see 3 main things that'll need to be done to the face:

1) Increasing eye size and shape
2) shrinking the nose down next to nothing
3) Heavily altering lip size and shape

An additional effect might be to smooth the skin out to a synthetic/plastic degree.

These things are totally possible with PS. But getting the exact look of the brats dolls might prove a task. Especially if you're looking for complete realism.

How much time do you have to pull this off? And how many photos do you have to do this to?

here are a couple of photos. i have photos out the wazoo. she's an only child. will either of them work?

she graduate in May 2006. i don't have a job. well, one that i get paid for. i have time. i'm just a real newbie to PS. i love playing with PS. i just haven't come up with anything worthwhile. it's all very overwhelming to me. it's awesome.

i'm not looking for complete realism. just something different & fun.

photos to come. still too large.

Ok well it sound like you have all the 'requirements' to do this so... let's see what we can make happen.

The closeup shot will work best.

Ok initial go at this. I may have gone too far in a certain direction. [honesty]

There are tweaks to be had here of course. I didn't go "all out" with the details. (like the eye lashes could be lengthened to match the dolls) But this should get one off to a ripping start i'd imagine.

that is way too coooooooooooool!!! it's perfect! i can't wait to do it myself. it looks so fun!
you are so very kind to do this! i will wait patiently(ok, i will try) for instructions.
thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
it's great! this place is great! you're great! everyone is great!
can't tell i'm excited can you? i'm going to have to make her friends into "Bratz" dolls too.
thanks a bunch!

Ok glad you like it AngelWhip. Give me a little bit to get a proper tute together for this. Considering how detailed this may have to get, i may as well just make it up right and post it in the Forum Tutorials board.

Doodad, i agree! I think everyone enjoys altering photos. It has a very "fantasy" type appeal to it. [excited]

Lasa, your effect looks real enough to make me queezy. hehe Nice job. :righton:

Here... i just want to show a few extra edits.

actually did some work on the eyes.
added some "cute-factor" freckles.
addressed some minor skintone issues.

This result will probably be what the final tute will be on.
And i don't mind saying, this tute will take a little time because it's going to have to be quite indepth as far as techiques go. I'll try and get it done asap. If i find my time constraints too rigid, then i'll probably post it up in sections.

I need to ask a favour too AngelWhip... is it possible that i may use this original source photo for the tutorial? Specifically because i've already done all the work using it. It would be a fair bit'o work/time to redo the effect on a different photo. It may be necessary to get permission from your daugther; unless you really feel she wouldn't mind her photo being on the internet. Let me know would you please. Thanks. [honesty]

theKeeper~~~first off, THANK YOU! it's awesome. 8D the freckles finished it. i can't wait. but i will. i have other pics to manip. and they will take me a while.
yes, you may use the original source. can you take the volleyball pic of her off? it doesn't really need to be on anymore.
may i use the result in her scrapbook & slide show?

Doodad~~~that's too cute! did you have fun? may i use your result in her scrapbook & slide show?

lasa~~~that's just way too fun. may i use your result in her scrapbook & slide show?

Great work Mark- the only thing I can see wrong is the hair - when you rotated the pic the hair on the left side should fall the same as on the right side .

Thanks Rick.
You're exactly correct, good eye.

I've only posted it 'staright up' like this so the details can been seen properly. The end result will have the photo as the original is, on it's CCW angle. Actually the image looks even more "fairy-tale-like" when angled. The eyes have a more synthetic look to them.

PROGRESS REPORT:

The tutorial is almost half done now.
It's coming along smoothly. Hopefully i'll be able to continue at this rate and get this done within the week.
